Penguins are done using color pencils, and ice using ... uhh oil pastels... Just came online to upload this deviation.

This deviation has a huge funny story behind it. I almost screwed it up every other second. I decided to color the backdrop with color pencils, and damn it, it looked crappy.

So, I, then thought of using white poster paint to paint snow. Oh what the hell? All white poster reserves had been exhausted (LOL!)

And then I thought of a plan. I had oil colors. I painted snow with cobalt blue and titanium white shades. Oh gawd! I did not have lineseed oil for dilution! (Used turpentine instead! Douh!) (At first I used water as dilutent for oil colors, whereas we are taught clean and clear in the junior classes that WATER AND OIL DO NOT MIX. It got screwed up again! But I calmed myself and DID not tear the drawing.

After I painted the snow, I found out something. I looked at the backside of my paper. Oh my gosh! Imprints! Anyway they did not bother me much.

I had missed something else too - penguin's feet!! I scraped the paint at the last moment to give a realization of feet. Douh! Man, I suck at painting!!

Anyway this did turn out to be good, though not as I expected.

LESSONS LEARNT -
1) Coloring/painting snow is not a child's play.
2) OIL AND WATER DO NOT MIX!!!
3) Paper ABSORBS oil!!!
4) Emperor Penguins love their kids!
